Tips for Caring for Small Fallen Trees
Young trees that have been planted within the last few years that do not have an established wide root system are most susceptible to toppling over during hurricane-force winds.
Your downed tree does not necessarily have to be taken down. If a tree blows down, you should stay away from the downed tree and report any hazardous conditions. Our licensed team will:
- Assess the potential danger in approaching a fallen tree by looking for downed wires or limbs in overhead wires.
- Remove only those limbs that are blocking access to your home or vehicle or are posing an immediate danger to people or property.
Prepare Before the Storm Arrives
Bay Area Tree Service LLC has a certified arborist on staff. We're licensed and insured and carry workers' compensation as well to ensure everyone's safety.
We will not "top" or "hatrack" any tree. This term is used when a tree is cut or chopped so poorly that there are few or no leaves on the branches. We will not remove more than the recommended 25 percent of a tree canopy.
Things we can do include:
- Pruning trees during the tree species dormant season or early spring.
- Remove mainly the interior branches that thins the canopy of the tree allowing the high winds to pass through more easily.
- Dispose of all tree cuttings since branches and stumps left out in the open can become projectiles during a storm.
After the Storm Has Passed
Because well-cared-for trees are one of the best ways to protect your home from storm damage, saving as many trees as possible can help to protect your home. Count on our team to:
- Cut any downed trees or branches blocking access to your property.
- Cut any leaning or split trees that have a high probability of falling and causing additional damage to lives or property.
- Remove trees that are blocking access to utility poles or boxes. Remember that the wires may be live, so do not attempt to remove trees leaning on power lines yourself.
A partially uprooted tree can be saved by digging out the roots and standing the tree back upright. Big trees may need a come-along or backhoe to pull the tree back up. Our fast and friendly team uses state-of-the-art equipment to take care of everything. Our attention to detail is second to none!
If you see power lines down, call the electric company immediately and keep a safe distance from the wires and tree until help arrives.
